Who want's pitbulls? By: Anonymous

About 2:00pm, February 12, 2007 an old lady and a pitbull named chief were in the couch watching television. Suddenly, chief jumped and a commotion was going on. The old lady screamed so Mavic ,the grand daughter of the old lady and the wife of the pitbulls master named Marlon Fronteras, pulled her grandmother to safety. The old lady told her that there was a big cobra who was about to attack her that is why chief came to her rescue.

The commotion stopped, so Mavic went outside and turned the lights on, to her surprised, a cobra standing about 2 feet tall, expanding its neck and spitting, was going to her direction and about a meter away. Out from nowhere chief grabbed the cobra in its neck, shaking the cobra to the cobras death.

They were glad chief was there to save them. Chief was about a five year old pitbull. He was considered a member of the family. He eats, sleeps, and even bathe with the family. His relationship with his masters children was exceptional. He was also an entertainer to his masters visitors because he jumps around, sits on your lap until your legs cramps. He was also an eye catcher, head turner during dog shows because he was so big, so cute and very friendly.

After the fight, Mavic noticed that chief was shaking his head and was sort of crying. They noticed that the cobra bit him in his lower lip, they called marlon because he was still at Nestle Philippines working and they called the vet. But the vet told them it is a hopeless case because the bite mark was within his head and the venom moves like hell and what is worse is that our city has no anti- venom for this matter. Around 30 minutes after he was bitten, chief’s leg went wobbly and he was paralyzed. He has no more control of his organs, he urinated and looses bowel. He was grasping for air and panted heavily. Marlon arrived and called his pet. Call me corny, but chief gave his 2 deep breaths and died. He was fighting and saving his last ounces of breath to see a glimpse of his master for the last 2 seconds of his life.

This is what you get when you have a purely bred American pit bull terrier. A pet with a big heart, clown, an exceptional playmate for kids, a warrior, and will risk its life for his master. It is so disappointing to hear the bad image of this humble breed. It is just media hype that created the worst of the breed. Every time that a pit bull bites, they call it a monster and will be banned. But the truth is they are the people who are ignorant of the breed. They should at least get a pure pit bull first before they criticize the breed. All dogs bite. And in the Philippines, the dogs that should be banned are those dogs that are in the streets “askal” as we call it. Those dogs contribute to the ballooning statistics of dog bites and rabies.

I have a couple of dog breeds myself, from rottweilers, german shepherd , Doberman to Chihuahua. But the breed I entrusted to play with my kids is the pitbull breed. And I have a lot of pitbulls in my yard. And I am sure that my pit bulls will do the same thing to me, as chief did to his master.

To my brother in oath Mr. Marlon Fronteras and his family, my deepest sympathy and my deepest admiration for the superb relationship with your pet and to Chief, a true warrior in every sense of the word, I salute you and our hero. That is what a true pit bull made of.

Movie Review: Akeelah and the bee by Frankie

The movie AKEELAH and The BEE is an exact epitome of how one struggle for the fulfillment of their dreams. Winning life’s adversities over perseverance and determination simply embraces the wholeness of this story. The movie revolves around the world of an 11 year-old girl named Akeelah from LA’s South Central, whose potentials were taken for granted. Indisputably the girl possesses extraordinary talents particularly in the realm of spelling. Akeelah , at first, is hesitant in participating for the school’s spelling bee contests. The girl had been considering a lot of factors, to be exact; (a) First is her mom, Tanya, whose only work was to focus on her job at the hospital which makes it really hard for Akeelah and her siblings to get through to it everyday, (b) Second is Akeelah’s insecurities against being the school’s most “talked-about” individual. Little by little, the girl was able to embattle all of her concerns. She was influenced by their principal letting her see that there is something more about her that she doesn’t know and that she needs to discover it while she still can. Afraid at first, she ended up with confidence that somehow there must be something to prove for herself. She was able to compete at various schools at LA and ‘twas luckily been able to make it to the regional and much further, at the National Spelling Bee Competition. This is absolutely one of the common dreams every American boy or girl ever had- that is being able to place at the bee and harbor prestige for their respective schools. Going deeper through the scenes, the movie was able to inculcate the different theories of learning. Apparent in the movie was Thorndike’s theory of “Connectionism.” The Law of Readiness was implied by the time Akeelah’s tutor, Dr. Larabee, and Akeelah primed themselves for the big competition. Engaging into rigorous practices and strenuous memorization of words, Akeelah evolved to be one of the promising young spellers of the recent time. One of Akeelah’s must-say “techniques” is the use of hand tapping. It seems that the tapping of hands serves as a stimulant for Akeelah’s successful spelling whiz. Everyday, Akeelah religiously took over the responsibility of store housing gazillions of vocabularies just to peg her way up to the top. Akeelah make good use of these words and she tries to apply it to her day to day living. Thus, the Law of Exercise is also involved in the making. Who would have thought that the girl would make a headway at the national’s? Surprisingly, the whole competition was kinda tough for Akeelah but despite her struggles in life, somewhat making it to the grand finals applauded her charms in her very own society; her family, her friends and to her school buddies. Law of Effect was observed. It really make Akeelah feel great about herself, and so the legend goes.. Shaping in my own comprehension is a technique that is used in operant conditioning in which the behavior is modified by stepwise reinforcement of behaviors that produce progressively closer approximations of the desired behavior. Shaping directly instills new skills and techniques in modification of our practiced behavior. In the movie, shaping was put into clearer picture when Dr. Larabee was injecting some sort of course obstacles, like take for an instance, Akeelah doing the “spell-the-word” thing with herself on the jumping rope. As cumbrous as it may seem on the part of Akeelah, she needs to stand by it for it is proven effective especially when you are on stage at the competition, there will absolutely be a lot of disturbances to which could highly affect your performance. The girl must be able to surpass these things in order for her to stay on the right track. The training was supposed to improve Akeelah’s concentration skills and yup, it did work out. In the movie, her mother Tanya claims to be one of her greatest obstacles. This is true when one time, her mother just pop-up from nowhere. This really affected the girl for her mother was scandalous right in her very front. Due to the training they had, Akeelah did not bother about what was happening. Instead she gained more focus. And so, Akeelah did make it to the national’s but not to worry, the little misunderstanding about her mother was settled down. She was just concerned with the child because her academics were chiefly affected. She just heard that her child is much focus on the bee rather than the school. It hurts her feelings for she was working hard at the hospital and all she wanted was for her to have quality education. That was when she doesn’t know about the school’s special offer for her daughter. The good thing about Akeelah joining the contests is that she was given a special kind of consideration. Even though she was not able to join the regular students during class days, the child was subjected to a special kind of system wherein it will enable her to cope up with her missed subjects. Not that bad after all. In totality, the movie was of great relevance with our previous topics because primarily it deals with the different types or theories which are very useful in the acquisition of knowledge. We were introduced by our dear teacher, Ms. Adan, with the theoretical basis of education. The movie in all fairness was a great spectrum allowing us to differentiate the theoretical from the real application. It’s essential for us viewing the movie because it gives way to the ideas that there are definitely lots of approaches/attacks in learning. These strategies somewhat plays an important role in shaping students; the one sole agent of knowledge.

If Only Movie Review by FRANKIE TOLEDO

SYNOPSIS

Though I was not able to make it during the airing of this movie at our Ed 110 class, I still can elicit relatively sensuous reactions. This is possible for I had already seen the movie four times. This would directly picture out that the movie was indeed a BUM!

The movie, IF ONLY, is a fine example of a modern-day “dejavu” genre.  Believing that somehow one can alter destiny, the male main cast of the movie tries to break down this so called “thread of bad luck” by changing the things which are supposed to happen. So cumbrous as it may seem, all of the heartfelt effort of changing faith still turns to nothing for QUE ZERA, QUE ZERA  so let the song be. Two of the must-loved stars for this film are Ms. Samantha Andrews and Mr. Ian Wyndham played by Jennifer Love Hewitt and Paul Nicholls respectively.  It all started by a horrible nightmare. These two couples were actually enjoying the state of accompanying one another. One of the few beguiling scenes in the story was about the confrontation of Sam and Ian regarding the status of their relationship. This argument rooted when Sam asked about Ian’s parents, all she was he had his folks way back home and that he left because of fortune. Sam was pretty agitated to see his parents but some disagreed. The disagreement lead to an emotional altercation, making her asked Ian whether he truly loves her or not. Poor guy, all that he could say is “I adore you.” The girls in her deepest frustration cried her way out, and ‘twas like everything happen so fast. Outside awaits this mysterious taxi driver w ho gave Ms. Andrews a daunting look and asking her whether she would like to take the cab or not. Surprisingly, Ian recognized the old man for it was the same old man who seized Ian’s perception of love. As far as I could remember, one of the most liked quotes was this petite outstanding verse “JUST LOVE HER.” The realization came in shortly after Samantha get inside the taxi, and take note, what make me go into ghost bumps really was when the old man asked Ian whether if he will be going along with Ms. Andrews. Startled as he is standing outside the pouring rain, he couldn’t change Sam’s decision of living

London

and so there she is, she drove her way out of the cafe. Ian tried to stop her but the taxi was just too fast for him. As they were about to cross the intersection, something tragic happened to the inconsolable lady. Samantha died by a car-hit. These entire awful incidents happened only in one day. Ian wouldn’t believe any single thing for he cannot face the reality that her girlfriend indeed died because of his unsound emotions.

The following day, as Ian was about to wake from this horrible nightmare, everything turned a bit strange for the young man. He sees Samantha sleeping next to him. His mind goes into gaga as he bares witness for another relive moments together with his beloved Sam! He grabbed dear Samantha with all his might and he keeps on repeating how he loves the girl so much. Sam was a bit intimated for she was kinda unusual for her to hear his boyfriend say those lovely words for her. A couple of noticeable events like spilling of coffee on Sam’s shirt, Ian’s broken watch, the “boy from yesterday-old man the day after” named Oliver , Samantha being slightly burned by her pot and some other extraordinary things. He tried to play with destiny as he lures Sam away from the things which are supposed to happen. He may have seem to change a bit of the typical scenario from yesterday but surely a part of these things took place in an unusual place at an unusual time. That is undeniably the power of faith. No one can ever spin it over and tries to change things from happening. Though, Ian was able to cheat with death. He, himself, was the price-intern. He bartered his life in order to save Sam’s. Now all the girl could do was to embrace the fact that what Ian was acting a bit strangely was for a good cause. I forgot to mention that Sam became a successful musician after graduating from

London

’s prestigious school for music. Ms. Hewitt, who played Sam, imparted a couple of pleasant songs which inevitably took over the hearts of many viewers. This hurtful movie may have less possibility of happening from reality but don’t you ever neglect the stories behind it. Life is too short. We must live each moment it is our last, make the most out of it. I actually, came into my own thinking that we as an agent of love should value our partners more profoundly. If you happen to notice, while others had their own love stories going some others have not yet even started. Take care of your love ones while you still can. For others it would take a lifetime looking for one. Stay in love!
